Spitzer criticizes Maggie Minarik’s “plan”
From Channel 10, more detail on how Spitzer isn’t happy:
The Maggie Brooks budget plan doesn’t sit well with the Governor. Eliot Spitzer says he’s troubled by the sales tax intercept, so much so that he told News 10NBC he might reconsider how much education money Monroe County gets in the future.
“How I will determine to fund education next year certainly will take into consideration whether those dollars have been used for the appropriate purpose,” Governor Spitzer said in Rochester Thursday.
Spitzer says it’s not a threat. But he says Monroe County is using education money to balance the budget. Spitzer says there will be consequences.
“(It) will weigh heavily upon me and will weigh heavily upon other school districts that will say, ‘look, if you want to spend money on education, we want those dollars for education. Maggie Brooks isn’t using it for education, so send us the money and we’ll use it for the appropriate purpose,’” Spitzer said.
Way to go, Maggie Minarik! Just what the county needs, less education money from the state!
Yay!
