Six, two, and even…they’re selling you out, Randy

One of my favorite inexplicable lines from a movie is in the Maltese Falcon when Humphrey Bogart tells a gun-toting punk “Six, two, and even, they’re selling you out, sonny.” Apparently, it’s a botched line — he was supposed to say “I’ll give you six to two odds” or something like that — but that didn’t stop former Red Sox manager Joe Morgan from adopting it as his personal mantra.
Well, it looks Randy Kuhl’s getting sold out the same way by Republican leadership on the SCHIP bill. Not to suggest that Randy’s a gun-toting punk or anything.
The bill has wide support among members of both parties and I’ll bet at least 60 percent of the voters in NY-29 would like to see it passed. But House Republican leaders are forcing members like Randy to vote against the popular program to help the Decider save face — as if he had any left. Here’s House leader Roy Blunt gamely pretending that that they’ll gain from having the Decider veto it:
He (Blunt) told reporters, “If Democrats send this bill back a second time (after a veto), that actually might be good for us, because people are going to know more about what’s in the bill … We would probably benefit from this bill going to the president multiple times.â€
No wonder we’re seeing articles with headlines like this:
GOP expects to lose more House seats

Exile-is that the picture you meant to post up there with Jimmy Stewart from, I think “It’s a wonderful life”?
Huh?
Don’t think Peter Lorrie and Humphrey Bogart were in “It’s a Wonderful Life”, but I haven’t seen the director’s cut DVD, so who knows?
Leave the Jimmy Stewart pic and delete the picture of those other two buffoons.
Tell me you guys can tell the difference between Jimmy Stewart and Humphrey Bogart. Maybe Tom Tobin is right about our “dumbed down” culture.
I am sure I resemble that remark.
I think the man seated at the desk resembles the banker in “It’s A Wonderful Life”…hence Bogie becomes Jimmy.
Whoops, sorry, my bad. I looked at this first thing before coffee and contacts this morning. This evening, I can see my mistake. A thousand apologies.
