Tar-Baby didn’t say a word, and Brer Fox, he lay low.
First there was Tony Snow and the tar baby reference. Next there was Don Imus with his adorable, “Nappy headed hos”description and today, Bill O’Reilly gives us this little gem, “Sylvia’s is just like a white restaurant” commentary. They’re everywhere, they’re everywhere.
The running joke at the Bill Press Show today was,
“What’s the difference between Don Imus and Bill O’Reilly?
One of them got away with it.”
Which might be funny if it weren’t so not.
Back in 2003, our very own Bob Lonsberry showed his true colors by insulting our, then, Mayor Bill Johnson who was running for county exec.
Last week I posted on the Jena 6 story. This week Bill O’Reilly demonstrates for us that racism is alive and well throughout this great nation and Brer FOX continues to lay low.
I’ve always said, give the Republicans enough rope, they’ll hang themselves. We keep hearing about all these slips of tongue and misrepresented statements. How come these things don’t happen to Liberal personalities? Because fundamentally, the Republican platform is one of intolerance and greed, thus attracting the prejudiced types, even if all Republicans are not by any means prejudiced.
Having said all that, I’m sure that, at some point, it WILL happen to a Liberal personality. My personally belief is that we’re all capable of prejudice and a good person just prays to be wiser. Prejudice and ignorance are closely related, after all, and we are all more ignorant than we are smart.
I’ll cop to having put my foot in my mouth more than once in my life. You live, and if you’re lucky, you learn.
I agree up to, “we are all more ignorant than we are smart”.
I would phrase it , “We are all more stupid than we are smart”
the word “ignorant” denotes that we have access to the facts but choose to “ignore” them. Sorry, that’s a Republican trait which I will not take responsibility for.
Stupid, I may be and will own up to that.
