BREAKING…Will Dollinger and/or Norwood challenge Joe Robach in 2008?
I just got called to do a survey with OTR research about the State Senate race for Joe Robach’s seat. The survey involved a lot of questions about reproductive rights, a few about state government reform, and several about potential match-ups in the 2008 state senate race. I was asked who I would vote for if it was Norwood v. Robach and if it was Dollinger v. Robach. There were slightly more questions about Dollinger/Robach than Norwood/Robach.
I don’t know who commissioned the poll. But this may be a sign Dollinger or Norwood will challenge Robach in 2008.
For those of you who missed it, you can read the whole sordid story of how Joe Robach stole Rick Dollinger’s seat here.
Here’s a depressing sidenote: they asked me what the biggest problem facing New York State was and I said “gerrymandering.” They didn’t know that word because no one else had brought it up. It’s sad that New Yorkers aren’t more focused on bringing democracy back to the Empire State.

I thought Dollinger always wanted to be a judge? 2 years and out on the Brighton bench?
I don’t know who ran the poll. So I wouldn’t say that Dollinger is getting into the race for sure, just that something is afoot.
I’ve heard the same thing about Dollinger. Hmmm… I wonder if they are using Dollinger’s name, simply to see what kind of numbers he would get now, given he was able to win that seat in the past. In other words, if it doesn’t look like Dollinger could win the seat, than it may be difficult to run someone else who has less name recognition associated with this particular district? Or, perhaps Dollinger is interested in the seat again, given he may be in the majority now? I’m more inclined to think that Norwood is the likely candidate, given his political career is currently on hold.
In any event, I have heard that State folks are getting some pressure to run a strong campaign against Robach. Well, unless he were to suddenly switch sides. I suspect if the Spitzer brand is still potent by the time the next election rolls around, and if he were to come out strongly in favor of Dollinger’s challenger, the dynamics might change quite a bit.
It’s amazing to me that no one is yet to mention Senator Robachs summer mishap. The Senator was found having an affair with one of his staffers. The staffer was married to a Greece Police officer who found Robach in bed with his wife. The officer proceeded to give Robach a very serious beating. The officer then took Robachs keys and told him to call his wife (his 3rd wife) to pick him up.
I don’t know whether or not to be outraged or just shrug my shoulders because I wouldn’t have expected anything less.
They were actually discussing this on the Bob Lonsberry Show yesterday!
We try not to deal in that kind of story. I don’t think we’ll be writing about it any time soon.

Passing on information from well connected political insiders:
The polling is directly related to the adultery/beating issue.
The poll isn’t a Democratic Party poll… it’s a Robach poll. He’s worried that the issues in his personal life will have political ramifications. It just so happens that both of the candidates that were speculatively named last spring (Wade Norwood and Rick Dollinger) are known for their strong Family Values, so what better way to assess the damage.

I guess this is where rumors get started.
You know, the Dems could Push-Poll the heck out of Robach on that “summer mishap” thing. Not that I would approve.
Nature has it’s way of eliminating and correcting it’s wrongs. In the end, it always comes back to bite. Ask Eliot.
