Is Randy Kuhl an idiot?
For months I’ve maintained the answer is “no”, but this has me wondering:
New York will allow illegal immigrants who have a valid foreign passport to get a driver’s license, with a goal of bringing “people out of the shadows” into American society, Gov. Eliot Spitzer said Friday.
(snip)
The change drew the scorn of some Republican lawmakers from New York. Rep. Randy Kuhl, a Republican, said the new policy “undermines the preventive measures that protect our country from national security threats. The September 11, 2001, hijackers had at least 35 licenses, which helped them to rent cars and open bank accounts.”
Uh, Randy, the hijackers were not here illegally. They were here on student, tourist, and business visas.

Yes.
Of course the man is an idiot. His record on being an idiot is clear.
And by allowing people with a passport to get a driver’s license doesn’t do anything to reduce our country’s security. If those people are here legally, what’s the problem with letting them get a driver’s license. No problem whatsoever.
Note how many different issues Kuhl (and his lovely party) want to tie into 9/11. Another sign of idiocy, if you ask me.
Seafood Diet…
In the last week, Randy Kuhl has tried to feed the residents of the 29th a bunch of red herring…….
The interesting thing about the 9/11 hijackers is that we made this big issue about airport security. Do you know how many times (and it was plenty) that they flew in and out of the country?
And exactly ZERO of them came in from Mexico, which is something that the Lou Dobbs of the world want you to believe. The 9/11 hijackers used our airports to get into this country. Imagine that.
In answer to the title question, please consider this a resounding YES!!
Of course Kuhl’s not an idiot, he’s actually a mendacious, clever Republican pol - we forget that to our peril. Remember, this is the same guy who said “They want to kill us all!” during a debate and who used crosshairs in a political ad just a week before the last election.
He’s, using a critique of a commonsense state policy (over which he has no control) to inject wedge issues fears about race, economic security and border security into the debate as a way of distracting his more gullible constituents from the real causes of their problems - the policies of his party.
Can’t you see it, it’s a typical Republican “flash-bang bomb” attack, i.e., make a big noise, scare people, blind them to what’s going on around them, stink up the joint and then make other people clean up the mess afterwards. People too stupid, uneducated and/or fearful to not roll their eyes at this lie have already been scared by his words, and now the Dems have to play defense by carefully explaining to people why a) Randy is lying, b) why his lie is irrelevant to the matter at hand, c) you don’t have to be scared, d) Randy and the Republicans are the problem, not state policies to make sure that every driver on the road has a minimum level of skill and insurance coverage.
Of course, once the Dems have gone to all the trouble of calming down and reeducating all the people Randy scared - he or some other Republican pol can just jump out and throw another bomb.
Were I a responsible journalist, were I to quote Randy at all, I’d point out in detail that his comments are irrelevant to the issue at hand, and that our Congressmen should be better educated about recent events and should know better than to go around scaring people.
Were I the Mass campaign, I’d go on the offense. Tell people a) Randy is irresponsible for scaring people. b) Why the heck isn’t Randy doing his own job in Washington rather than trying to tell the governor how to do his job? c) If Randy can’t recall that the 19 911 hijackers were in the U.S. legally (more or less) and that most of them didn’t have pilots licenses (presumably the source of the “over 35 licenses” nonsense) then he’s too stupid or lazy to be in Congress - at the very least he could have had a staffer fact-check his comments before he issued his press release. d) If Randy is so damned concerned about national security and terrorist attacks, why does he consistently vote to keep the bulk of our military bogged down in Iraq, uselessly wearing out vital equipment and sapping the fighting spirit of our troops, rather than using our military might to protect our borders or take out Al Queda in Afghanistan?
