Red county rebellion

Following on the heels of its editorial saying Kuhl would likely lose in 2008 because of his support for the Bush Iraq “policy” (or whatever you call what Bush is doing in Iraq), the Corning Leader has another editorial calling for withdrawl from Iraq (h/t to Fighting29th reader Elmer) .

This is big news. The Corning Leader is as “red” it gets (unless you include the Elmira Star-Gazette), but that doesn’t mean they’re dumb and it certainly doesn’t mean they don’t care about our troops or our country. Let’s hope this is the harbinger of things to come, that more conservative newspaper editors all over the country will start to call for withdrawl. As much as I, as a progressive, would like to claim that there is something fundamentally conservative about this war, the truth is that backing Bush on Iraq is just plain irresponsible. And irresponsibility isn’t a political philosophy.
