So much for domesticity, or my partner’s better than your partner.
Attended the County Leg meeting last Tuesday. Many interesting things came out of this, my first visit with this Honorable Body. We have some great footage as well that is in the queue to be processed. One thing I did just want to touch on, was the lack of Domestic Partner Benefits for those employed by the county.
During Public Comment time, 2 different women (we will post that great footage) stood up to voice their opposition to this policy(or lack, there of). In beginning my research, I have discovered that both the City of Rochester and the Town of Brighton Provide Domestic Partner Medical Insurance
Hmmmm, I wonder what the city of Rochester and the town of Brighton have in common? I will let you mull on that a while (answer will appear at the end of this post).
The points these women made included discrimination by the county (duh) and the fact that even when offered, few take advantage of the service therefore providing very little cost increase for the county.
Peter Vincent, vice president of human resources at Time Inc., admits that the actual number of employees who take advantage of domestic-partner benefits is “a small percentage of our gay employees, who are probably only 5 to 8 percent of the company to begin with.” However, he points out, offering those benefits “says a lot about a company, and where it stands.”
Exactly, it says a lot about the company. One of the women stated, “People will feel that they have been listened to”.
Well, talk to the hand cause the face ain’t listening. Why not? Answer to question in paragraph #2 (drrrrrum rolllllllllll please):
Brighton and Rochester=Democratic leadership,
Monroe County= Republican leadership. Monroe County, led by the party of “limited family values” where compassion, tolerance and health are not included.

I had no idea there wasn’t a domestic partner program for our County Government. I beleive most of the major corproations here have one and as they are supposed to run their business to maximize shareholder value - I wonder what they know that our county government doesn’t.
This just in from the D&C. Eastman Kodak, Xerox, B&L, Nixon Peabody and even Corning earned awards for having domestic partner benefits as part of workplace ethos that recognizes and accommodates gay, lesbian and transgender issues.
Wow, what a find, today of all days! Monroe County Government, definitely behind the times.
