Open letter to Chuck Schumer

Dear Chuck,

Welcome back to the fall session of the Senate. A friend of mine handed me this letter that you wrote to him back on May 25, 2006. Here is page 1.

As recently as 15 months ago you said discoveries of WMDs remain very possible. Look, as long ago as 2003 - I told my friends and basically anyone who would listen that Saddam didn’t have WMDs and an invasion of Iraq was a not in the interest of the U.S. but then again I didn’t have access to the all the intelligence reports you did.

Look, I have a lot of respect and admiration for our senior Senator from NY. You took back the Senate as head of the DSCC (Thank you, Thank you, Thank you) but most importantly - Dad’s from Brooklyn, so I have always had a soft spot for all things Brooklyn. Heck riding the in the 5 Boro cycle tour a couple of years back the folks in Brooklyn cheered as we crossed the Pulaski Street Bridge. It was really cool and by the way they didn’t cheer us in the Bronx or Queens.

However - With General Petraeus about to issue a report and about to testify before the Senate - I’m concerned. Then there is the entire Alberto Gonzales affair. Yes he is gone but he must be replaced with a new AG. And I certainly don’t want his misdeeds to be forgotten or excused.

We have come a long way since 2006. You have learned that this administration simply cannot be trusted. Recall your mea culpa on Judges Alito and Roberts.

I hope that you will take that lesson to heart as you represent your voters’ views with regards to Iraq and anything this administration puts in front of you.

We are counting on you.

One can hope that the additional leverage Chuck created for himself and the Democratic party via his efforts at the DSCC can come into play with ANYTHING the administration puts in front of him.

Otherwise his efforts at the DSCC will have been for naught.

Alot has changed since that letter of May 2006 was written. I think Schumer woke up shortly after ths letter was sent, and has been very vocal since. I trust without doubt he will vote for withdrawal.
