Craig to resign tomorrow

Larry Craig is gone tomorrow.

Should he resign? I don’t know. He keeps saying he didn’t do anything wrong. What seems to be clear is this is designed to minimize the damage and maximize the time a replacement can be in office going forward to 2008 elections.

I wonder what the D&C Editorial page will say. It said Michael Vick shouldn’t be banned from the NFL and then tied gangsta rap to Michael Vick’s actions

I wonder what they were playing over the sound system in the bathroom. Maybe that is the cause of this too.

I think it was probably Johnny Cash’s “Flushed From The Bathroom Of Your Heart” - Ironically played at Folsom Prison:

From the backdoor of your life you swept me out dear
In the bread line of your dreams I lost my place
At the table of your love I got the brush off
At the Indianapolis of your heart I lost the race

I’ve been washed down the sink of your conscience
In the theater of your love I lost my part
And now you say you’ve got me out of your conscience
I’ve been flushed from the bathroom of your heart

In the garbage disposal of you dreams I’ve been ground up dear
On the river of your plans I’m up the creek
Up the elevator of your future I’ve been shafted
On the calendar of your events I’m last week

I’ve been washed down the sink of your conscience
In the theater of your love I lost my part
And now you say you’ve got me out of your conscience
I’ve been flushed from the bathroom of your heart

I’m predicting they’ll say Craig should be banned from the NFL. Sucks too, I was hoping to finally draft a Senator to my fantasy team this year and I heard he’s got… well, I won’t go there.

I’m thinking “Knock Three Times”.

And I still say don’t give up on him for your fantasy league. With a better O-line and better receivers, he can still be a factor.

I think he should go, but most importantly, so should Vitter for buying hookers!

I see two very different stories when I take a look at Vitter and Craig.

While prostitution is a public crime when both the prostitute and the buyer are out on public streets, Vitter’s use of the DC Madam means this was privately arranged and hopefully the sex took place in private.

Craig, on the other hand, was in a public bathroom. His actions are extremely alarming if you consider the fact that Craig had no way of knowing who was in the other stall…could have been a minor. Craig damaged any shred of public trust he may have had by pleading guilty. Had he been totally innocent, he should have fought the charges.

He might as well resign since the the party of family values has no use for him anymore.

Two difference circumstances? OK one was arrested and one was not because he was not in a position to be arrested. the DC police were not watching the DC madam. Nevertheless, the hypocrisy is the common bond for both men. Both are cut from the same cloth.

And does anyone actually believe Craig’s denial of wrongdoing?

I can only speak for myself, but if I’m using a public bathroom, you better believe that my feet are not going to move anywhere near the feet of the person in the stall next to me…for Craig to suggest that it normal for him is beyond belief.

And for Craig to state he was reaching down to pick up toilet paper on the floor…..????? Who in their right mind is in the habit of picking up anything on the floor of a public men’s room?

I thought the most poignant part of this whole escapade was the last few comments and questions from the policeman who interviewed Craig. The cop was clearly disgusted with Craig’s lying instead of Craig’s behavior in the bathroom:

Embarrassing, embarrassing. No wonder why we’re going down the tubes.

The audio is better than a transcript to hear the frustration in the cop’s voice:

And where would you put the Clinton/Lewinsky affair? Personally, I see no difference between what Bill did and Vitter with a prostitute. It was either just sex or sex in exchange for money or power.

Well Hiwayman you should get out more. Both Clinton and Vittner made a poor choice. The difference is, of course, prior to the disclosure of Clinton’s affair - Clinton didn’t go around bashing others for their extra martial affairs.

Vittner did - ergo - he is a hypocrite. Why? (with links gleened from TPM)

Vittner made the sanctity of marriage his hallmark. Argued extramarital affairs are grounds for resignation. Look a little more into Vittner. I think you can clearly see the difference between his circumstances and Clinton’s.

Are you serious?

Who are you, Tom DeLay?

What Bill did was NOT illegal. Whether it was amoral or not, is not for us to decide(although, many of us have already made that judgment call). 2 consenting adults, a very young adult, agreed, but adult, non-the-less. Get a life-sheesh!
