For those about to lock…

Fighting29th lays waste to Kuhl’s silly decision to start locking his offices up to keep out the peace protesters. How can you not love a post that begins thusly:

When the history of the first decade of this century is written, a long chapter will be devoted to real and lasting restrictions of civil liberties justified by vague and ephemeral threats. Even though Randy Kuhl’s decision to lock the doors of his local service offices won’t make any history books, it still fits the same, depressing, three-step pattern of liberties restricted “for our own good”:

But read the whole thing, it’s good.

“We began this month with a few harmless hippies spending a day in a couple of Randy Kuhl’s offices. We end it with his offices on perpetual lockdown, justified by vague, unspecified threats of future radicalism. This is a classic case of “look what you made me do”, and it would be comical if it weren’t so common.”

So now the enemy is not just the “terrorist”, but it’s anyone who doesn’t agree. For a long time I questioned the logic in announcing a “War On Terror”… after all, how can you declare War on “fear”…but now the interpretation of such logic becomes apparent when Randy Kuhl yearns to “pack” and “authorities” recommend locking the doors.

So perhaps Marshall Law is still an option they would use to extend “control”. After all, this is what it’s all about - control - and silencing those who dare to differ.

Initially the hype was so great that anyone who dared to question the President’s motives was denounced as “unpatriotic”, “un-American”, “in cahoots with the enemy”…and to make sure they knew who was talking, they bugged our phones, read our email, looked at our mail and more. Little by little (and sometimes by leaps and bounds) they’ve managed to chip away at the Constitution and nibble at the rights of it’s citizens.

The right to take a stand against this war, this President, this Congresscritter is OUR right. When does this madness stop? I know…2008…if they don’t pull another rabbit out of their hat.
