I cannot think of a single thing Chertoff has done well. He makes predictions from his gut. After Mike Brown resigned over criticism of his handling of Hurricane Katrina, Chertoff granted Brown two 30-day contract extensions for reasons that are too silly to mention.

If Chertoff is advising a Congressman on office security procedures, I think this is a pretty stupid thing for an agency head to be involved in. Conflict of interest is a good way to describe it. But we shouldn't expect that Bush "administration" agency heads have ever heard of such a thing.

Quite frankly, he's not worth a recall effort. History needs to record the fact that he was VOTED OUT of office by the same constiuents he barred from his offices. A massive "Throw The Bum Out" effort is what's needed.

History needs to record it was the PEOPLE who took away his pass card, not an act of yet another governmental body or service. The PEOPLE have the ability to do this. I believe in the will of the PEOPLE.

You're right of course about security agencies.

I almost can't believe Kuhl is saying that DHS told him to do it and that's why he did it. Can anyone take this kind of thing seriously?

"in fairness to Chertoff, that he’s been a lot better than Tom Ridge"

Because "something" was better than "nothing"...Tom Ridge was a college buddy - and Chertoff had to perform - America started "watching"...but overall, his performance has been dim and self-motivated.

All security agencies will recommend perfect security - it's part of their culture, and also part of their CYA attitude. The question is one of judgment, which is the job of their customer, in this case Kuhl. He, not some faceless "authority" is responsible for determining which of the recommendations make sense.

This is a general point, by the way. The last 7 years have been an era in which judgment about security has been thrown out the window.

I agree with you that there is a conflict of interest there, though I also think, in fairness to Chertoff, that he's been a lot better than Tom Ridge.

Maybe Chertoff can't.. In my personal opinion, people with dual citizenship should not be allowed to serve in the capacity of Director of Homeland Security. It's simply a conflict of interest.

And with Homeland Security becoming the new "S.S" for Kuhl (meaning literally, ‘Protection Squad’) one has to question the role Homeland Security takes when defending our governmental "public" servants against it's citizens and their constitutional right to peaceful protest?

Is history repeating itself here, or am I just having suffering from a historical flashback?
