City’s take on Massa and the Dtrip
In the Politics section of City Newspaper this week, Jeremy does a quick digest of what the DCCC’s backing means to Massa:
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has put Massa’s campaign on it’s list of priority races. It’s supporting Massa in part because of his 2006 campaign against Kuhl, where he built momentum through grassroots and netroots efforts. The other reason: Massa lost by a slim margin last year. The DCCC is targeting seats that Republicans won by less than 10 percent.
Support from the DCCC means additional campaign funding, including access to a wider fund-raising network. It also means that candidates like Massa get help with research and strategy.
This piece, along with stlo7’s take on it yesterday explains how Eric will benefit from this support. Thanks to Chris Van Hollen and the Dtrip for recognizing what a treasure we have in Eric. It just shows to go ya that it’s worth holding out for a hero.

Let’s not nominate the DCCC for sainthood yet….remember how they screwed Massa last year?
Support is good. I just don’t trust the DCCC. I trust “the people”.
Actually, I was referring to Eric as the Hero, and Hero, he is. I can see where you would get the impression that I meant Van Hollen, I did not.
Well the good news is the people are already in this race. The “people” could use some help and the DCCC promised to deliver some help. Frankly, they don’t have any excuses not to deliver.
In the end we will see.
I asked Massa yesterday what the concrete effect (i.e., Money, Ads, etc) of DCCC support would be, and he said he frankly didn’t know.
I was at the Presser when Spector and Moule asked Van Hollen. He was vague because it was early in the cycle to allocate financial support. The message was this is an important race, we are watching it and the fact we are here early means we fully support Massa.
Frankly I can understand that logic. My work involves planning and I’m gearing up for planning activites in 2008. I know I’m going to support certain activities - I just don’t know how much that support is going to cost - I need to scope and assess. having done this for a while, I know I won’t lock down my initial cost until January with period financial course correction @ the 3+9, 6+6 and 9+3 milestones.
I guess the DCCC response doesn’t surprise me. That said - as I said in another comment - it is important to be vigilant of the DCCC support and ensure it does indeed materialize.
DCCC could ruin things with really negative attack ads.
Or they can improve things with strong issue ads in a media market that can affect 3 sitting Republicans. Or they can actually deliver the direct funding necessary to defeat Kuhl this cycle.
I understand the concern. I know everyone associated with the blog is fully aware of the DCCC’s support last time. It is important to be vigilant with promises of support now.
Give the promises a chance to materialize first before condemning.
Yeah,
Let’s give em a chance. As much as I will not contribute to the Dtrip, as I want my money to go directly to Eric, Van Hollen is NOT Emmanuel. We have a much more approachable guy in Chris and after the reception that Eric was given by his supporters at this week’s fund-raiser, Chris can not help but “get it” in regards to where the supporters stand with Eric (3 Minutes worth of applause, hooting and whistling-The crowd went wild.)
I was gonna mention that I’m a “hooter”, not a “whistler” cause I can’t whistle, but it just doesn’t sound right.
