BREAKING: Gonzales resigns
From the New York Times:
Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, whose tenure has been marred by controversy and accusations of perjury before Congress, has resigned. A senior administration official said he would announce the decision later this morning in Washington.
Mr. Gonzales, who had rebuffed calls for his resignation, submitted his to President Bush by telephone on Friday, the official said. His decision was not immediately announced, the official added, until after the president invited him and his wife to lunch at his ranch near here.
Mr. Bush has not yet chosen a replacement but will not leave the position open long, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the Attorney General’s resignation had not yet been made public.

Another one bites the dust. Good riddance to bad baggage.
Beat the D&C on the story (again). Viva RT!
Yep - torture boy is gone. The pillars are falling. The key here, of course, is to remember that all will still not be well now that Gonzo is gone. He is simply one guy that helped implement a failed conservative philosophy as personified by the Bush Administration.
I wonder if that proposal Gonzales gave/supported when he was is Rochester is now dead as well. Maybe the D&C can follow up on that?
Possible replacements?
From Ameriblog - Chertoff -
I think Chertoff makes sense. Although he botched Katrina pretty badly, he’s pretty trusted by the Senate, I think, because he hasn’t called terror alerts all the time the way Tom Ridge did.
What gets over looked here is Gonzo was seriously mentioned for the Supreme Court. Chilling
Damn…I was hoping I could see him sue himself. Shucks - these guys are no fun anymore.
We’ve still got Larry Craig, though. That guy knows how to party.
