BREAKING: Spitzer’s Dad Threatened by Senate GOP

In a sad twist of events, lawyers for Governor Eliot Spitzer’s 83 year old father, Bernard Spitzer, sent a letter to NYS Senate Investigations Committee Chair George Winner today detailing a threatening call made to Bernard Spitzer earlier this month. A recording of the call was also provided to Sen. Winner.

The Times Union has the details:

“If you resist the subpoena you will be arrested and brought to Albany,” the caller, believed to be political consultant Roger Stone, stated in an obscenity-laced message…

…The voice mail, obtained by the Times Union, recorded a man’s voice that sounds very much like Stone. Stone, who is being paid about $20,000 monthly by the Senate Republican Campaign Committee, according to a source familiar with the campaign committee, did not return calls left on his office and cell numbers.

Moerdler said his client (Bernard Spitzer) hired Kroll Associates, an private investigation firm, to trace the call, which was left 9:57 p.m. Aug. 6 at Bernard Spitzer’s work phone.

“Your phony loans are about to catch up with you,” said the caller, who characterized the governor as “a phony, psycho, piece of (expletive).”

Joe Bruno and the Senate GOP have sunk to an all time low. Pathetic.

We’ll have more on this tomorrow.
