Who’s down with OPB?

I this week’s edition of Other People’s Blogs, we are featuring:

  1. * Our old friend Rotten, who has one of his patented Massa press conference summaries up, along with news about the VA center in Canandaigua, more protests, and word that the DCCC now considers NY-29 to be a “top tier” race. I’ve said it before, readers: if you don’t read every post at the Fighting29th, you’re missing out.
  2. *Tons of cool stuff over at the WNY Media family of blogs, based in Buffalo.

Here’s some highlits from WNY Media:

  1. This post by Buffalo Amy really caught my eye, since it has actual good news about western New York’s economy: “Per capita income is growing more rapidly in Western New York than in any other Upstate markets, according to a report released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Per capita income in the Buffalo Niagara Falls metro area grew by 5.1% between 2005-2006, compared to Rochester and Albany at 4.9% and Syracuse at 4.8%.”
  2. I also recommend browsing through All Things Buffalo, which has a number of interesting pieces up about development issues in the greater Buffalo area.
  3. Buffalo Pundit continues his coverage of the Pro Bass controversy. I don’t know what this is about yet, but they write about it a lot on WNY media.

  1. Itchy says:

It’s Bass Pro. They’re a very popular sporting goods (fishing) store. They’re supposedly going to open a big ‘ol store in downtown B-Lo, in the old Memorial Auditorium building, as part of a waterfront (inner harbor) revitalization plan. The issue is how big a tax break they’re getting, and how much the state and city are doing to get them in. (I think…) The whole thing’s maybe a $100 mil project?

Anyways, you try to use a ton of public money to lure (ha ha) a big-box into Buffalo’s downtown, you’re going to get some strong opinions…. There are surviving downtown shops in that line of business (Tent City, a bike shop) that are grumpy about the subsidy as well.

  2. Thanks for the plug. Also, Buffalo Pundit is running for either Erie County leg or his town board, I forget which, but it will be interesting to see if he’s going to win.
