Interesting ideas - but the light rail one, for example, is unpractical. I think a lot of people will call him a kook.
I would like to see what could be done with part of the inner loop. And I agree Renassance Square is a joke.
Alas, he doesn’t stand a chance - but I give him credit.
Yes, question Ren Square, support filling the loop, support bikes, and pedestrians - provide alternatives to car dependence. Those are all good things.
He seems a little long on the generalities and a little short on specifics to me. Take sidewalks, for instance. They’re the responsibility (in most cases) of other governments, not of Monroe County. So what’s he proposing? Sidewalk mandates, subsidies, right-of-way acquisitions, asking really nicely, what?
I’m a little uneasy about the way he dodged the sales-tax intercept question, too. Kind of a long pause after hearing “community solution”, then a discussion of the costs of private car ownership.
When Julie Philipp asked him how he would go about improving the economy, he said “extensive use and awareness of the multiplier effect,” and then talked about deliveries by bicycle. Dude. Come on. I’m a bike rider, too, but I want to hear about job creation.
Also he totally mangled Okun’s leaky bucket theory. Maybe that was intentional, though?

That’s the spirit - why bother. I’m glad that wasn’t going through David’s head as he loaded his slingshot. Or Gallileo as he was criticized by the Church.
Sure a tough uphill fight with odds stacked against him. That is why he is bothering - because it is important.
The bigger question here is will We be better off than what we have now?
If you are going down the path of “kooky ideas” I mean Maggie has some kooky ideas as well - one shot budget financing until you run out of bullets, shielding herself via postponing the budget process until after the election, the entire closed circle that in the Monroe County government, pitting towns vs the city. blah blah blah
I agree with much of what Itchy wrote. I really hope Andrew doesn’t bring up his bike idea again. At least not as his primary example of job creation. We don’t live in Beijing.
He also needs to work on the way he presents his leaky bucket analogy. It comes across as a bit hokey to me, at least in the way he presents the concept.
Obviously, every politician loves to talk at length about the general characteristics of a healthy community, but I guess, overall, I’m a bit disappointed that when Andrew does choose to provide details/examples of his ideas, the ones he chooses are a little odd as focus points.
Again, I would be interested in hearing him address some of the critiques provided in the comments on RT for both interviews.
