Slaughter for Senator?

Phillip Anderson of The Albany Project asks the question: who will Spitzer appoint as Senator if Hillary is elected president in 2008? He says:

It seems there is quite a well spring of support for Rep. Maurice Hinchey (NY-22) as well as Rep. Louise Slaughter (NY-28). There is even some talk of appointing Lt. Governor David Paterson.

As for his own opinion:

My choice? Louise Slaughter. What about you?

Anyone here care to weigh in?

Geez that’s a tough one… Louise would make an excellent Senator, but as the Chair of the Rules and Ethics Committee, she has a lot of power in her current role.

I guess I’d offer the job to her, but I’d be somewhat surprised if she accepted it.

I agree, the only way that I see her accepting that role is if she knew that it was her seat that was going to get squeezed out in the next redistricting. That being said, I’d be equally surprised if it were her seat that was squeezed out.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

That’s all I’m saying…

No way - she’s best served exactly where she is, and only time and seniority gets you rank in Congress. She’s worked hard and long to get to where she is, and outside of Pelosi, she’s the second most powerful woman on the hill. And that does us all PROUD.

Louise is way over the hill and is not considered seriously in the House. Although she chairs Rules, she doesn’t make the decisions. The next Senator will be Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — he’s been lining up support.
