Straight outta Steuben

There’s one last thing I have to say about what Rottenchester calls the D&C’s “furious backpedaling” on pistol-gate. Why does James Lawrence give so easy on Randy Kuhl for talking about “packing”? Lawrence writes
There are a lot of people carrying pistols these days who we all should be worried about. I don’t believe Kuhl is one of them.
Now if somebody from the Crescent just trying to get by was putting our records where he rapped about “packing”, Mr. Lawrence would be telling us to boycott the guy’s record company. It wouldn’t matter if the guy was a peace-loving individual who had never fired a gun in his life. Why does a Congressman with a well-documented history of firearms abuse get a free pass when he talks about “packing” but some struggling kid is a no-good gangsta rapper when he does the same?
Seriously, I’m not kidding here. If Mr. Lawrence really thinks gun violence is a problem (and he does, to his credit), he should not condone Congressmen talking about packing heat. It’s that simple.
I mean, a lot of children look up to Randy Kuhl as a role model and if they see that Randy thinks it’s “cool” to carry guns around, then they’re gonna think it’s “cool” too…okay, now I’m kidding.

Jeesh Exile - Did we really have to see THAT face first thing this morning? There goes breakfast.
Maybe the missing 190,000 guns in Iraq are being redistributed to disgrunted Congress Critters living in fear of peaceful protesters? After all - Kuhl *did* promise to meet with the protesters “later”…(scary music inserted here)
I didn’t even read the article. I’m sure it’s great, and I probably will later.
In the meanwhile, that headline and graphic was one of my better morning laughs. Mine is a very quiet place to work, I think I might have tipped someone off that I may not be doing official business at the moment. . . .
Lawrence seems to miss the point that it is beyond irresponsible for a Congressional representative to allude to anything of the sorts, in jest or not. Furthermore, his own freakin paper has run a multi year campaign admonishing Gangsta Rap primarily for its celebration of gun culture!!!!!!
There are many things I just do not understand about our local media. First why would they spin or defend or make light of what Rubberstamp Randy said about “packing”.
On the most basic level, there are such serious implications in his statement. A man with serious alcohol problems and bad history with guns who is now an elected representative doesn’t get the luxury of being flip with such serious topics.
The local media should be alarmed by what he said on two levels—if he was serious about “packing” is one issue. If he was just joking, it shows a real lack of common sense, thought and understanding of how serious the issues of guns and/or alcohol are.
