Two interesting guest essays today in the D&C

There’s two interesting guest essays in the D&C. We’ve already discussed the one by our good friend Joe Bruno, who continues to beat what he calls “Troopergate” into the ground. Our Bruno specialists have already had at it, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell all of you about a new book by Joe Bruno and Stephen Minarik coming out this fall. It’s called How To Overplay a Story In Six Easy Steps.

The other guest essay (link — sorry I forgot earlier) is about…you guessed it, the D&C Editorial Board meeting with Randy Kuhl! There’s no mention of pistol-gate in the essay, which was written by Catherine Dean, a member of the board of contributors, but there’s some good stuff in the nevertheless. Let’s check out some of the highlights

He was asked if our homeland issues were being overlooked while so much attention is focused on Iraq. Incredibly, he asked what had been overlooked. New Orleans, the Minnesota bridge collapse, higher education and health care were cited as examples.

Remember, though, Kuhl views the government’s response to Katrina as a success. Finally, there’s this puzzling response about his intention to vote for more occupation in September:

My biggest frustration was in getting my question answered: What will Kuhl do if Gen. Petraeus’ report is negative? In reply, Kuhl asked me to describe “negative.” I wasn’t asking for a tap dance, I was asking for an answer.

It’s a fair and thoughtful piece — kudos to the D&C for running it.
