Bruno in the D&C
In today’s Rochester Democrat & Chronicle (D&C), Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno attempts to extract the last few drops of milk remaining in the udders affectionately termed troopergate.
It seems his entire essay is based on the premise that an “independent investigation” is the only way NY can put this issue to rest. Setting aside, for the time being, the obvious hypocrisy in Bruno’s logic, it seems clear the Majority Leader is attempting to drag out the issue based on a criteria which has already been met.
Bruno’s argument (if such a pathetic attempt can be called that) can be surmised with this piece of his essay:
With an independent investigation and the truly full cooperation of the governor and his staff, we can seek and find the truth, move on from this scandal and focus the full attention of state government on delivering results on these and other critically important issues.
Bruno’s argument falls on its face due to the fact that David Soares, Albany County DA, the same guy who brought down fellow Democrat Allen Hevesi, recently announced an independent investigation into the so-called troopergate “controversy”. Soares, by his investigation into the Hevesi affair, has proved himself an independent investigator. In fact, Bruno put out a statement admitting Soares probe was exactly the type of independent investigation Bruno was calling for. Here’s what Bruno said in a August 2 press release:
I am glad that he (Soares) has agreed to do so (investigate), as there needs to be an independent investigation to determine whether any criminality was involved in this matter.
Since even Bruno himself acknowledges Soares will conduct an independent investigation, it’s clear Bruno’s current and continuing calls for additional independent investigations is without merit and, presumably, based on factors which he refuses to admit publicly. What could those factors be, you ask? Well, more than likely it’s Bruno’s own wrongdoing, as evidenced by our reporting and the current FBI investigation into Bruno’s affairs, that is motivating the Senator down the road of hypocrisy.
The independent investigation Bruno’s salivating over has already begun. Therefore, it’s time for the Senator to address issues of more pressing concern. Such as, why is Bruno apparently deliberately circumventing the NYS Election Laws?
Based on why I have read and know about Senator Bruno, I doubt he will in any way address the legitimate concerns we’ve raised. Nonetheless, it’s our job at RT to ask the questions the MSM either won’t or is afraid to ask.
So, Mr. Bruno, who should call for an “independent” investigation into your fundraising tactics?
