George Bush vs Marvin the Martian

Marvin the Martian

Immedately after that heartbreaking LTE I found this one. Oh my God - do these people really exist? Apparently they do. From the same Democrat and Chronicle LTE page.

Bush has kept us safe and secure

Your editorial page of July 10 featured correspondent Byron York’s column in which he stated that even the president’s “base awaits his exit.”

I do not consider myself a member of President Bush’s “base,” nor am I anxiously awaiting his exit.

This president and his administration have kept the United States safe from further terrorist attacks for nearly six years now, an almost unbelievable accomplishment.

Does no one remember what happened to our country on Sept. 11, 2001?

—BRIGHTON

So - If you believe George kept us safe from Terrorists. I’ll believe he also kept us safe from Marvin the Martian, killer asteroids and Paris Hilton’s Oscar nomination.

The good news is that people like Bruce Smith of Webster get it in his LTE - simply titled ‘Sedition’ is in the American Fabric.

Democracy is about the people, not about the king.

Any commenters - want to add to a list of what George has done to lessen our safety? Safety isn’t just about guns and bombs. By “George” I simply mean him or his administration. Much Like the LTE author means Bush and his policies.

So how are we doing with GWB and his policies? Well, not in any particular order….

Privatizing government aspects so these private concerns can profit and provide limited service with increased margins going to a select group.

Staggering National debt so we have little creditability against real potential adversaries like China who can sell us a tainted food supply in exchange for us providing them a market because, well they can and we have no leverage to demand an exchange rate that will make American good competitive.

Lack of accountability for profiteering either businesses like Enron or Haliburton

Just my quick thoughts - how about yours..

    Loosening environmental controls.

    Global warming.

Forcing US attorneys to go after hypothetical cases of “voter fraud”, instead of real crimes, so that he has a “reason” to disenfranchise voters.

Leaking the name of Valerie Plame, which not only cost us one spy, but also compromised every front group she’d been involved with. It was bad, people.

Letting 9/11 rescue workers breathe abestos.

    Invading 2 foreign countries.

Saber rattling vis a vis Iran.

Not accepting a remarkably generous truce offer from Iran in 2003.

    Antagonizing China.

Failing to take care of the Middle East: now Israel is besieged, Hamas is in power, our secular thugs in power in the “moderate arab states” are threatened, etc.

Letting North Korea gain nukes (by scrapping the Bill Clinton agreement).

Bringing the war on drugs to afghanistan, rather than focusing on stabilizing it’s government.

    Iraq.

Invading Iraq so incompetently, it’s scary.

  7. From the great Stephen Colbert

We go straight from the gut, right sir? That’s where the truth lies, right down here in the gut. Do you know you have more nerve endings in your gut than you have in your head? You can look it up. I know some of you are going to say “I did look it up, and that’s not true.” That’s ’cause you looked it up in a book.

Next time, look it up in your gut. I did. My gut tells me that’s how our nervous system works.

Sure America has been spared further attacks, but what of London and Madrid? It seems rather provincial to claim he has stopped terrorist attacks and that is an”incredible” accomplishment.

You can’t reason with these people. Forget trying to point out the largely accepted belief that Queda used all of its North American assets on 9/11 which explains why they have not been able to mount a credible attack since then.

Hey, Mr. LTE writer, let’s not forget that Bush had the opportunity to take steps to avoid 9/11 and he DID NOT do so. The worst terrorist attack on American soil happened on Bush’s watch. Those facts alone argue for his early remove from power.

  10. That’s the thing: he presided over the worst terrorist attack in our nation history yet has somehow managed to make preventing terrorist attacks his signature issue.

It’s as if Abe Lincoln were credited with making our theaters safer…after all, it’s been 140 years since we’ve had a president killed while watching a play.

Most of all, GW has saved us from ourselves. God forbid anyone should have been forced to have the courage to stand up and admit that he was “wrong” about everything. And in saving us from ourselves, we now have to contend with the fallout that comes from proving that you should never let your Supreme Court pick your President. Stand up or shut up. People get the government they deserve. I miss the good old days when his father used to condemn us for eating broccoli.
