Well, It is about time - County Dems find alternate way to reach voters in Monroe County
The Monroe County Democratic Legislative caucus launched a web site to better explain their platform and policies.
We’ve discussed the freezing out of non-Republican ideas at the County Legislature in previous posts. Well the Democrats finally are trying to get around that by sharing their ideas with the public and ensuring their ideas and platforms are available to the public
So this is the 10 min speed post before work… We will come back later with more analysis
Remember that Democratic Legislature reform package that was announced a while back? Anyone see it or have a copy? Well here it is - right here.
Have a look at the issues section. It explains the where the Democrats stand on certain issues. Clear concise and understandable.
Looks like they have a section for press releases and positions. Stuff that doesn’t have a live past press conference or the D&C editors.
An unlike the County Legislature page it even has all the bios from all the Democratic Legislators. Yo, Wayne Zyra - you paying attention to how to update a web site or don’t you care?
The section on the pending fiscal issues looks interesting but the - 10 minutes are up.
There are charts and graphics and easy to read fonts. It is inviting. Most importantly it can help get the Democrats get their message past the obstructionist opposition and have it more visible than it currently is in the existing news venues.
Great news for Monroe County and Rochester, NY
So, nice job. We will be back.

This is awesome news for people wanting more information about what goes on in MC Leg. politics. It’s just a shame they don’t have an RSS-enabled news platform on there to keep us up to date. Ya know, like, a blog or sumpin’. . . .
Yep. One step at a time.
This is really cool, if only because it brings more open government to Monroe County.
Quick thoughts:
- Full committee meeting on July 10? We missed it!
- I heard about this on WXXI, and they said something to the effect of “Dem Legislators set up this website because John Durso, the county communications director, refused to put any of the information they wanted on the official county website, and Repub Legislators refused to allow a resolution mandating it”
(That’s all from memory, so it may be inaccurate)
- The fact that it has a pdf file of all proposed legislation is great!
- Will it also have a page telling us the outcome of legislation?
-I also heard on WXXI that the Dem’s want to eventually put up a sort of CSPAN style live feed of the County Leg on their website.
Great!
I understand where they got the number, but “We represent roughly 41 % of the people of Monroe County” is rhetorically weak. Dems have a 5 or 6% registration advantage over Repubs in Monroe, why not say “We represent the majority of the voters in Monroe County”? Come on, you can’t spin this a little better?
