Mayor Duffy, Clinton ally?

Apparently, our mayor is on Hillary Clinton’s “Mayors Council,” whatever that means.

Well, according to a HRC (that stands for Hillary Rodham Clinton, by the way) press release,

Made up of more than 100 current and former mayors from across the country, the Mayors Council will advise the campaign on policy and outreach. The council represents a broad cross-section of America, including urban, rural and suburban cities and towns that reflect the nation’s diversity.

On one hand, it’s nice to have Duffy advising a prominent Senator on issues that matter to us. On the other hand, I’m queasy about my mayor tacitly endorsing a presidential candidate I may not agree with. I know political endorsements from current public servants happen all the time (the other day, Spitzer backed Hillary, for example), it’s weird when that endorsement comes from someone so close to home.

Anyways, Mayor’s Council: Electioneering Gimmick, truly good idea, or neither? Remember, HRC has a reputation as being a consensus-seeking policy wonk, so maybe this council will actually have a purpose.

On a different note, see this website? Apparently it’s the official blog of some newspaper, and it copied the HRC press release almost* word for word. Lazy media at it’s finest.

*They edited the first few sentences to make it sound more local, and less like a press release, and then copy/pasted the rest.

I’m not sure this is a big deal one way or the other. The bigger news would be to find which NYS Democratic Mayor isn’t on the list and deduce why.

New York State Democratic electeds will by and large line-up behind their Senator and what NY Dem Mayor wouldn’t line-up? In January 2009, HRC will either be President or Junior Senator from NY.
