David Nachbar - County Executive
Seems Mr Nachbar’s stock has just gone up with the withdrawal from consideration of Kevin Murray. The Monroe County Democrats are scrambling as their recruiting activities are simply failing - the deadline is but 2 weeks away. Frankly the Dems need a viable candidate.
Enter David Nachbar. I believe his heart is in the the right place he is simply running for the wrong office.
What do we need in Monroe County? Openness, Accountability and Jobs - in that order.
What do we have in Monroe County?
Openness and Accountability issues.
We have ideas stuck in the legislature that don’t see the light of day, closed room discussions, corruption and the rest.
We have a partisan death grip by the Republican party appointees. These serve at the pleasure not of the voter but GOP machine - in this case Steve Minarik.
We have a 50 million dollar budget gap, plunging credit ratings, and divisiveness between County and the city of Rochester. All resuting in the taxpayer getting hurt.
That is where Mr Nachbar comes in. He really is new to this local political stuff and doesn’t have the Monroe County party lineage (read - history). In a local Monroe County that is an advantage.
Finally the job thing.
At the Brighton Meeting Mr Nachbar touted his experience creating jobs. A County Executive can directly affect local jobs by implementing forward-looking policies. A County Exec has control over a 1 billion dollar budget.
You can do a lot of good as a county exec. And certainly our county needs some housecleaning. So how about it, David Nachbar?
After all, as we’ve pointed out before, he’s already an exec - now it is time to put his expertise where his mouth is.

This is when the true leadership of the Monroe County Democratic Committee shines or burns out. This is Joe Morelle’s job–finding candidates for offices.
Nachbar probably is the best person to run for this office…too bad he doesn’t think so.
I really believe Nachbar can beat Maggie Brooks too. If he really wants to help the party, he should consider taking the stepping stone toward Congress by winning in Monroe County first. If he keeps running in the 29th he’s going to get blown out of the water in the Primary.
The key is the primary.
Primary’s have low turnout and those who do turn out are high information voters. That will be the voters who understand the requirements of the 29th. The committed, passionate Democrats who were decisively engaged last cycle. I don’t see those folks’ agenda as including Mr Nachbar as a Congressman in the 29th.
I’m not sure I understand *why* it has been so difficult finding a candidate for this office.
I understand her poll numbers are high. But I think that’s because no one has pushed hard enough to make the voters aware of her administration’s chicanery– from airport parking to the water authority; financial failures; and utter lack of effective job creation.
Yes, she has boatloads of money. Yes, she has good name recognition. Yes, she currently has high poll numbers.
But the underlying facts on the ground– mostly, her own administration’s performance– are against her and a competent opponent ought to be able to use them effectively.
And the icing on the cake is: she is suing us to raise our sales tax! Who is going to vote for her once they realize what that means?
If we had a comment rating system, you’d get the highest rating for that comment.
Great comment
As we have been saying and the MSM or the Dems haven’t picked up
Maggie’s perceived strengths are actually her greatest weakness
The reason the Democrats can’t find a qualified candidate to run against Brooks is because of her popularity in the polls (I was told its over 70%) plus she had a huge war chest thanks to the fundraising efforts of Steve Minarik and his cronies, who I’m sure get their ‘cut’ from all the money raised.
As I’ve stated on here, and in the D&C, the key for the Democrats is taking control of the County Legislature, not trying to win the race for County Executive.
Trying to recruit a “retread” like Kevin Murray is a joke. The GOP spin machine would make mince-meat out of Murray. As for this Nacbar fellow, I’ve never heard of the guy and you can bet neither has the majority of the voting public. He might have the proper background to be County Executive but Brooks has the name recognition.
Morelle could have easily defeated Dan “The Invisible Man†Quatro had he put forth a strong opponent. Instead the Democrats are running someone registered with the Green Party. Therefore Quatro will become Majority Leader should the Republicans win, and the Democrats lost an opportunity to take control of the legislature. Come on Joe, you can’t tell me that there are no qualified Democrats to run in the 15LD?
I am disappointed in Morelle’s leadership so far. One would have thought this election would have been a slam-dunk for the Democrats.

I only want to only address the Monroe part of your comment. I can’t speak to the 15LD. I’ll look into it and maybe we post something about it.
The Dems seem risk adverse - however without risk there is no reward. The County Leg as run by the GOP simply does not have the best interests of the County in mind.
Yes, the key is the leg but Maggie, Minarik and the GOP are sooo intertwined that you can’t really separate them. Best to toss out the entire can of worms. that is the power of a strong new candidate.
I also firmly believe that as Maggie’s failings come to light - regular voters become disenfranchised with her.
All hard work to be sure but focused activity and leadership can get it done.
