Massa Continues Building Support…

UFCW Officially Endorses Eric Massa for Congress

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Recently, Congressional Candidate Eric Massa was officially endorsed by the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW). Retired Navy Commander Eric Massa is running for Congress in 2008 in New York’s 29th Congressional District.

“I want to thank the UFCW for its endorsement today, and I promise that I will stand with you throughout this campaign and every day of my tenure in Washington DC,” said Pro-Jobs Candidate Eric Massa. “If we are going to create more living wage jobs in Upstate and Western New York, then we must stand together and demand our fair share for the sake of our families in the 29th Congressional District and around the country. It starts with unity and a new vision that combines education with industry.”

“We know that Eric Massa represents us, so we’re proud to support him,” said Gregory Gorea, UFCW Local 1 Executive Assistant to the President, on behalf of President Frank DeRiso. “Eric Massa will go the distance for the hardworking men and women of the United Food and Commercial Workers, and so we will stand with him.”

“Unions such as the UFCW are the backbone of our nation’s economy,” said Massa. “Can you even imagine what this country would be like without the essential services of the UFCW? It’s about time that Congress stops rubberstamping everything George Bush and his comrades-in-outsourcing demand. This is going to take leadership, and I will never stop fighting to create living wage jobs, solve our healthcare crisis, and create the climate for middle class families start getting out of debt, and into a better tomorrow.” Massa’s opponent has drawn the focused opposition of Organized Labor as never before due to – amongst other things – his continued flip flopping on key issues and legislation. The men and women of organized labor, like the rest of the Congressional District, are simply fed up with being represented by yet another George Bush rubberstamp in Congress.

In addition to the UFCW, Eric Massa also has earned the endorsements of the Communication Workers of America (CWA), the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers (IAM) and the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA). Eric Massa has also received the endorsements of the Allegany, Cattaraugus, Ontario, Schuyler, Steuben and Yates County Democratic Committees. Massa also has the endorsements of the Democratic Committees of Brighton, Canandaigua, Corning, Chili, Gates, Henrietta, Mendon, Penfield, Perinton, Pittsford, Rush and Victor. The 29th District consists of all or parts of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chemung, Monroe, Ontario, Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates Counties.
