My wife’s “Holy Crap” moment on Clean Money Clean Elections

So, my wife is a good sport about my obsession with politics. She’s into all the progressive ideals and values, but frequently my “inside baseball” conversations end with her saying “I’m done talking about this.” She is awesome in this way since she reminds me that one of our goals here at RT is to make the political process interesting.

Even so, I mentioned to her something about how Massa and Powers are already kicking off their congressional campaigns, and she stopped me — “Wait, what year will their election be?” “2008, why?” “You mean they’re starting already???” “Well, yeah. They’ve got to keep building name recognition and fund raising.” “But Massa just ran last year– you mean they have to get re-elected every 2 years?” “Yep. And so do the state reps.”

She was incredulous, silent for a moment. “So basically they have to fundraise all the time, pretty much, even after they’re in office.” I couldn’t even get the “Yep” out of my mouth before she went off:

“Oh my god! It’s like the system is designed to make them subservient to big donors and corporations– anyone with lots of money.”

You know, there’s just some moments where you love your wife, and then others where you just Love her. “That’s why you’re always talking about Clean Money Clean Elections!” she finished.

“Yep.” I answered. Nothing more to say, she’d pretty much said it all.

No, but she has an awesome sister. She lives in DC though.

You know? Your wife and mine would have LOTS to talk about! Mostly centering around (I’ll wager), “I can let him start talking and he won’t stop. . . like, ever.”

Nothing more important in this world than a partner who doesn’t just humor you. Our wives may occasionally get sick of the talk, but they’re our biggest cheerleaders, too!

You’re either the best husbands ever or you’re trying to get out of trouble…which is it? :)
