Get back to work, Republicans
Earlier we told you that the D&C had an editorial criticizing the state lej for leaving before their work was done. The fact is, it was really just the Republican senate that left. They’re getting blasted by an ad campaign from the Dems for having done so:
“Can you leave your job before finishing your work?” the ad asks. “On 21 June, Republican State Senators Jim Alessi (sic) and Joe Robach did just that.”That date was the last scheduled day of the regular legislative session; the Assembly spent an extra day at the Capitol.
Spitzer and other Democrats accused the senators of failing to address several key issues, including campaign-finance reform, a controversial congestion-pricing plan that would impose an $8 charge on New York City drivers if they wish to travel below 86th Street during work hours, and reforming the Wicks Law, which currently requires multiple contractors on most public construction projects.
“We wanted to let New Yorkers know that (Majority Leader) Joe Bruno’s GOP Senate left early last week and left the people’s business unfinished,” said State Democratic Committee Co-Chairman David Pollak. “They were so excited to get to the golf course, or to the La-Z-Boy, that they couldn’t manage to finish their jobs.”
