More on the Greece Secular Prayer issue
The original post is well off the front page but it is never too late to hop on to this discussion.  I saw this comment and wanted to bring it to your attention. Reader Publius chimes in with this blistering comment (emphasis mine).
Points of fact for our conservative friends…The folks who attended the meeting in question were there for another issue [public access TV] when they heard the prayer. They are not the only folks complaining about this. There are a number of town residents concerned about this. It’s telling in and of itself that many are fearful to come out worried about retaliation by the town.
Equally imporatant as to where the town fathers went to school [there are no women or minorities on a town board of a municipality with 100,000 people. I guess everyone in Greece just happens to be an older white guy] is the pandering to one particular church that has received special “favors†from the town.
Here’s one example, no other church gets its own special police detail every week to direct traffic when a service lets out. This is provided at taxpayer expense to make it easier for the congregation.
And yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus.
I wonder if the Church does reimburse the Town for police services. Anyone out there want to comment?
Remember this isn’t an issue about ‘prayer before town board’ it is ‘mentioning of a specific Deity in that prayer before the Town board’. Mention of any Deity makes a government sactioned prayer inappropriate.

I don’t know if the church reimburses the town for police services, but I heard that the town is paying for the sewage system to be installed at a new mega church that is being built, while new businesses are often responsible to install them on their own. If it’s true then the church doesn’t pay taxes but gets public works while businesses who do pay taxes don’t get the public works. I have also seen the town mobile stage set up at church functions. The mobile stage clearly reads “Town of Greece, John Auberger, Supervisor”. Why doesn’t anyone challenge these people?
Don’t forget the whole “Day of Prayer” in Greece, too.
They also emceed and built a memorial to Father Heindel in Greece. Not that the man wasn’t worthy of merit, by all means he is and was. But it’s the fact that ANYONE watching them give their speeches, including Robach, Relich, Diraddo, and the town board members in attendance were there to push their own reputations. It’s always politics. It’s always them. 3 out of 4 of the town council members work for Maggie Brooks. Auberger used to date her before Minerick broke them up and she was introduced to the nice cop who now runs the Water Authority. Problem is, they are pushing everything towards a “Metro Government” agenda, and cannot see Greece as a town anymore. They look at EVERYTHING on a county level, and this is why the whole reassessment process is flawed. In raising property assessments, they put money in Maggies red hot fist, so she can proclaim she didn’t raise taxes, all the while increasing her bottom line. The religion is just the cover for the thievery going on. It’s no surprise the assessor who Auberger appointed is in jail along with his cronies - but this all occurred under these idiots watch. And not ONE taxpayer has received a credit, nor a sewer pipe, nor a mobile stage, or even a return phone call when you have a problem.
Challenge them? I saw the democrats in the fireman’s parade after they were literally SHOVED by the Brooks people and Greece Republicans and they have candidates, and a website on their sign at greecedemocrats.com.
I am going to make a donation - ANY amount of money is worth it to get rid of these constitutionally defiant, criminally minded thieves who think the people of Greece don’t SEE what they do.
We see clearly - and come November - you will be the ones SEEING how we feel when we toss you out of office.
