The D&C on CMCE
The D&C has an article on CMCE in Saturday’s paper. From it, it’s pretty clear who’s court the ball’s in. I’ll let Joe Specter say it:
Campaign reform stymied
Bruno says Spitzer is obsessed; governor vows to press the issue.
This is funny, not Joe’s writing, but Bruno calling Spitzer obsessed.  Yeah, he’s obsessed like when you go into a job interview and you’re like, “well, my weakness is I can’t stop thinking about work. I work too hard. Etc.”
I like those little “What’s at stake” sidebars the D&C puts in. Check out one for this article:
What’s at stake
Campaign finance reform. Long criticized for lax laws on campaign spending and contributions, the state Legislature failed to adopt more stringent laws before the end of its session Friday — pitting Gov. Eliot Spitzer against legislators.
I like it because it gives a little context, to activate what Rottenchester calls the “give-a-sh*t-o-meter” in readers. NY state has some of the most lax campaign finance laws in the country. Another interesting bit of context is that Bruno, last I checked, was under investigation by the FBI for questionable financial dealings. So yeah, if I were him I’d be worried about someone “obsessing” on campaign finance reform.
CMCE is a game-changer. If big money can’t control the legislation, things start to get interesting (and better!).
