Mendon Gets Her Groove On

Four years ago, Mendon Elected her first Democratic Town Supervisor in 64 years. Moe Bickweat was elected to replace, then entrenched Republican Supervisor, Jean Loberg. For 4 years Moe has worked to bring transparency and accountability back to the Mendon Town Board. This has been no easy feat, working as the only Democrat on the board. During board meetings he sat quietly, and assertively got his points across. In private, he spent alot of time beating his head against the wall.

Well, Moe’s head is sore and he has decided to retire from politics this year to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a full-time garden gnome. (Shown with the candidates from last election cycle, he’s the little guy in the front, in case you haven’t met him.)

And in his wake, a new slate of candidates has arisen to carry the torch forward for truth, justice and a new library in Mendon. Ian McNabb will be running for Supervisor. He is a former business owner, current businessman and longtime resident of Mendon. Shari Stottler and Mark Cottle will be running for the 2 contested board seats. Shari is the current president of the Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees, and Mark is a library trustee.

These candidates will have a booth at the Festival on the Green in Honeoye Falls tomorrow. They’re a tight group who are going for broke and are determined to make a difference. If you happen to be in the area, stop in and say “Hi”, they’ll appreciate the support.

Mendon is a painfully Republican Town, but the Democratic registration is growing, as it seems to be all over. It’s a good year to be a Democrat and the Mendon Dems are not going to quietly fade into the sunset. Let’s kick some ass.
