City paper interviews Nachbar
The City paper has an interview with David Nachbar. It’s got some interesting nuggets:
City: Did you consider a run for county executive?
Nachbar: I was asked about it, but not as a matter of substituting one race for another per se.
 (snip)
A number of local Democratic committees, including Pittsford’s, have endorsed Eric Massa.
I have not asked any committee within the 29th District for endorsements. I think it’s silly.
(hat tip to Fighting 29th).

Great find. After a quick read I think - David Nachbar is out of touch with the 29th and the overall process. For example.
“Endorsements are silly”. I like the part where he says that once people people get to know him. Well, what a better way than the endorsement process. The 29th is a big place and it takes time to get to know the voters and concerns. Based on history - Even though Massa started early last time he was unable to put as much effort into a few parts of the district as he wanted to. Now Massa is building upon that recognition and gets to go back to those parts.
Sounds like Nachbar is casting doubt on the process because he is choosing not to participate in it.
Rolling out a slick ad campaign and purchasing campaign workers doesn’t sound there is a groundswell of support of people who actually know the district. However, If Mr Nachbar wants to spend his money that way then go ahead.
I just added a comment at the bottom of the City’s on line article, and now it has dissapeared ?? Wonder what that’s about.
@ladkiddo: don’t worry about it, I saw the same thing and thought “but. . I didn’t even use the F* word, and I really wanted to!” LOL. They must have an approval system that’s conflicting with their AJAX commenting jazziness that puts your comment up without refreshing the page.
Give it an hour or so, and it should appear.
No comments showing yet at 2 hours & counting…
I guess I don’t understand why he’s so eager to ignore, then thumb his nose at his “base”. I get the impression of Jack Nicholson in that one Batman movie where he’s standing through his sunroof of his car, throwing cash around and saying “Money money money! Hubba hubba hubba!”
Good comparison.
So, don’t miss the big picture, here: this isn’t about serving the people, it’s about how Nachbar can make the biggest splash and have the greatest ego trip. You don’t get much of that from County government, unfortunately.
So, ignore the desperate need of your party and fellow citizens, kick back on your rich a$$, wait for the primary, throw all your money into letting your constituency “get to know you,” and then play the big shot.
Maybe this is why we shouldn’t be trusting a suit to do a populist’s job?
The Invasion was a military success. The war which is still going on, is a military, political, ethical, and strategic failure failure failure!
I’m a liberal. That means I’m open-minded. Open-minded enough to acknowledge that I could be wrong. Maybe this primary is a good thing. I could give Nachbar the benefit of the doubt. However, that means actually having open debate, etc. Maybe this City interview is the beginning to the actual bit where he starts “getting involved”. However, part of the primary process is the bit where citizens get to choose their preferred candidate. We choose Massa. Just because you represent “a choice”, Mr. Nachbar, doesn’t mean we have to treat you like a good one.
Still, it’s very suspicious that Nachbar’s getting in the race just as Massa has proven it competitive.
Then go start a company or something, you shmuck!
At least we agree on that.
Excellent.
Excellent points, Sayhar! But, ignoring for a moment the obvious good sense of your comments, “military success and a political failure,†also shows a breathlessly-unoriginal attempt to glom onto the current debate of which Massa has been a part for a long time. It’s a pathetic, weak attempt at adding to the debate.
If you want to attract the attention of the political community in the 29th, I would have thought that an executive of a corporation would at least understand that you’d want to have something original to say. This interview was an anemic attempt at that.
Well, if anemic is all you have because you don’t want to actually meet the Democrats - on whose party line you are trying to run - then so be it.

AND David Nachbar must also think it’s silly to appear before those committees (or send a representative.) David Nachbar was a no-show at the City of Canandaigua Democratic Committee meeting last evening. Oh yes, his aide had confirmed Mr. Nachbar would attend. Over 30 people were present, looking forward to the opportunity to hear both Eric Massa and David Nachbar address the issues and what they are “passionate about.” This is not how you win supporters among the Democratic base, Mr. Nachbar.
Oh and yes, at the end of the evening the City of Canandaigua Democratic Committee endorsed Eric Massa’s candidacy for the NY 29th.
