Farm Subsidy bonanza mapped out online
I have neither the ability nor inclination to wade through all the data, but the Environmental Working Group has put up a huge database of all agricultural subsidies, including those in our very own Monroe County. If anyone knows the agricultural/farm scene, can you look through all these subsidies and see if they’re all on the level?
Even if you don’t, is all this money worth it? Going to the right people? Is there too much? Too little? For more info, tune into Farm Bill Blogging, and the Center for Rural Affairs.

Egregious though the numbers may be, the problem isn’t quantity, it’s quality. The money they spend should be geared towards (and maybe even proportionately shaped like) the good old food pyramid, making sure that fruits and vegetables are nice and cheap instead of Cheetos and Taco Bell.
