Strange bedfellows

Am I the only one that finds it strange that Stephen Minarik –the rude, angry, self-styled street-fighting man of New York State politics — continues to talk up Michael Bloomberg, the quiet, technocratic, patrician mayor of New York City?

Some New York Republicans would prefer a different home-state candidate: current New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Former state GOP Chairman Stephen Minarik, who is still Monroe County GOP chairman, has called Bloomberg “the right guy at the right time.”

My take is this: all of the possible Republican presidential candidates are very unpopular throughout upstate New York. This is a way for Minarik to distance himself from the national GOP, which is a smart move for almost any Republican outside the Bible Belt.
