With the certainty of a Kangaroo court, COMIDA approves Brighton Properties LLC application
Well, that’s it then.
The COMIDA board just approved COMIDA application for Manish Patel despite strong objections from Brighton Town Supervisor Sandy Frankel and Councilman Jim Vogel.
I wrote about the Brighton Town hearing here (it is worth a reread) and predicted the outcome here.
Oh there is so much to discuss. The smoke screen sale tax resolution put forth by Maggie Brooks to allow local governments to opt out of property and school tax impacts driven by COMIDA. Trouble it doesn’t really work and hurts the towns in the long run.
There is Bob Hurlbut who must be allergic to public forums - I swear I saw him breaking out in hives. I really found it distrurbing when he cut off Sandy Frankel - the elected Surpervisor of Brighton who was speaking during the public portion of the forum ABOUT A PROJECT IN HER TOWN.
Then there was the lecture by Bob Hurlbut discussing competition with China. Sorry Bob, not in the hotel industry.
There was the Mike Townsend (the COMIDA lawyer) and Judy Seil who kept harping on that COMIDA was following the law. Sorry boys and girls. Ask yourself: what is good enough?
The law says you can graduate High School with a 66% average (give or take) so are you going to accept that and is a 66% average going to get the job done? We can do better.
I don’t think anyone is really against the concept of COMIDA - however, everyone was against this project.
There are tapes floating around and you can expect me to post more about the subject with pictures and videos. (I figured out how to do the videos - get someone else to do it).
More later…
…including the Metro Justice Protest.
It was all over the news, Rnews, 10, (others probably too) . A few reporters were there as well so watch them tonight but remember, you heard it here first.

Well, I suppose that the county DOES know better how to spend our money than the towns.
NOT!
Wow, that’s really lame. Talk about railroading the towns.
This is a really big issue and should be publicized more. Do you have the video? That would be a great clip to show people, with a bit of editing to show context.
I have to look at the clips. What I found interesting as he interrupted Supervisor Frankel, he used the excuse that other peopel had to speak. then he only allowed a few people to speak using the excuse something like they have to get back to work. I thought administering COMIDA was part of their work.
I didn’t like the way Frankel was treated as she was winding down her comments.
Does COMIDA actually have to publish a statement indicating why they approved this project? I read on WBP that there is no follow-up by COMIDA to see if their money is well spent and actually produces the benefits that were promised.
The whole thing seems to be a way for COMIDA people to do spend the public’s money any way they want, free from oversight or accountability. And while you might be right that no one is against the CONCEPT of COMIDA (although I’m not sure you are right), I’d have to say there are many who are opposed to the implementation.
By the way, STLO7, great work.
Is it just me or is something missing?

I don’t think you are missing anything this was probably pre written and awaiting official approvals. The Brighton Properties LLC was later in the agenda. I’m sure it will be modified. Maybe it is a different category
