“No duh” announcement of the week: Brooks running for re-election
Well, it’s official. As of tomorrow at least:
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks plans to officially announce her re-election bid tomorrow morning.
Brooks, who is seeking a second, four-year term, will make the announcement at 11 a.m. at the County Office Building. County officials would only say that Brooks is planning a political announcement.
“The county executive looks forward to discussing her political future tomorrow morning,†said spokesman John Durso.
Brooks has said since earlier this year that she plans to seek re-election in November.
This was such a foregone conclusion, I don’t even know why they’re bothering to announce. Then again, Maggie’s never one to say no to a photo op. It’s actually a core part of the Minarik-Brooks strategy: Image Management.
So far, she is unopposed. Democrats have yet to announce a candidate to challenge her.
Arrgh! Who could run against her? Hmmm. If only there were someone interested in getting involved in politics who had the potential backing of the local net- and grass-roots. Hmmm. Reminds me of a tee-shirt I saw recently.

I can’t read the text on the shirt. The “view larger image” link doesn’t work.
Nice shirt tho.
Hmmm. What browser are you using? It works for me in Firefox and IE6.
CafePress has been known to be a bit flaky with FF, unfortunately, though the “view larger” did work for me. Did you try restarting your computer? LOL.
Nice tee, you guys getting into the CP game? It’s fun if only for the sake of making funny tees and seeing if they sell. My “Northern Liberal” tees have sold more than I expected and in the darnedest places.
Yeah, flaky under FireFox, but I got it to work with Opera.
Oh, My God !! I love it. Who did this and thanks !! I have to get one. Couldn’t we at least start a petition for Nachbar to run for county exec ?
I hear that some guy requested billing records from the County under the FOIL act for labor relations work done by a well-connected law firm, retained by the County. Maggie (Steve’s?) administration fought tooth and nail to keep these records from being released, but under threat of action by the Governor’s office, the County finally offered them up.
So how much did the County kick over to a GOP crony law firm to conduct these “negotiations” (which basically amounted to saying “no” to everything the other side proposed)? CLOSE TO $500,000!!! And Maggie did not need to hire an outside leagal firm since the County has more than 20 attorneys in the Law Department already on county salary!!!! Talk about government waste and graft rolled up into one story…
And the kicker is that Brooks says she’s “protecting the taxpayer”. Good grief…
This story will be covered by the media very soon. stay tuned…
Actually, I did it. I’m so irritated about the whole thing I thought the best way would be to defuse it with some humor. Although the shirt does make a serious point.
And any purchases of it go to RT to defray the cost of our server! Yay!
Yeah, I don’t expect much out of it. I just like that you can create something, and put it on a tee or a mug. I’ve checked out the “Dragon Swag” but missed the “Northen Liberal” tees. Have to go back there.
Whoa. Thanks for the info, Marc. Is this the same “negotiations” we talked about here?
