Do we really need more government intrusion in our lives? How about the government just govern instead!
Did anyone pick this up recently? With all the discussion here about Big Brother and using the government resources to attack opponents (Plame, the U.S. Attorney Scandal) check this out.
ABC news mentioned this when they said that the VT shooter didn’t take prescription meds. How would they know?
Some news accounts have suggested that Cho had a history of antidepressant use, but senior federal officials tell ABC News that they can find no record of such medication in the government’s files.
It appears the US Government knows if you have taken prescription medicines because they have a database. I’ve bolded the important point from Americablog a couple of weeks back.
We learned yesterday that the Bush administration has created a database of every single prescription drug user/patient in the country (that would pretty much be all of us). The database was created pursuant to a 2005 law that was intended to prevent the abuse of prescription drugs. Funny that this massive new database of your private medical information is now being (ab)used for a purpose that wasn’t intended in or approved by the law.
So again Americablog is on it.
Does the Federal Government need to know which kids are on Ritalin? Â Who is taking anti depression drugs? Who is using Viagra? Birth Control Pills?
Why do they need such information and what could they possibly do with it. The government is made up of people. What would people need with such information and how would they use it?
Next thing you will be telling me is that there is a government program that is listening to my phone calls.

How does HIPPA weigh in on this ?
This is bloody ridiculous. Now, for sure, I’m going to Canada — and the internet, where I know my privacy is protected — for mine.
