An interesting look at Congress
The fabulous Erin Kelly (Ms. Kelly, if you’re reading this, we love your short blog posts at the D&C) has a truly fascinating short item up about Jim Walsh:
As the House prepares to vote tonight to approve the controversial Iraq spending bill, Rep. Jim Walsh is already preparing for Round 2.
The Onondaga Republican knows the bill is doomed even before it passes. President Bush has vowed to veto it because it sets deadlines for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq. Democrats do not have enough votes to override the veto.(snip)
Walsh said he believes those provisions will survive in the final compromise bill, which he is sure will be stripped of the divisive troop withdrawal deadlines. Walsh, who opposes the deadlines but has been critical of the war, will then support the bill.
So Walsh is going to stab the Democratic majority in the back with his cowardly and hypocritical opposition to withdrawl deadlines, then pray that they leave his goodies in the bill anyway.
For all I know, that will work, but it seems a bit strange, no?
