Monroe County Exec Race
Joe Spector had a little nugget in the D&C about the race for county exec, and how the county Dems currently have no one running against Brooks.
…county Democrats know all too well that Republican Maggie Brooks is seeking re-election on Nov. 6. But Democrats have been quiet because they haven’t settled on a candidate to run against her.
While the parties’ slates for the fall elections are starting to take shape, Democrats are still searching for someone to lead the ticket and challenge the first-term incumbent Brooks.
He notes that Brighton Town Supervisor Sandy Frankel isn’t interested, and that Assemblyman Koon is busy being an excellent Assemblyman & making his mind up about it.
No question, Dems need a deeper bench, county-wide.
Morelle insists they won’t let Brooks run unopposed, however.
Good thing. Monroe County voters deserve a choice, and Brooks’ large war chest shouldn’t scare folks into allowing Republicans a monopoly on the county government. Plus, I’m not sure what her coffers hold at this point (I tried looking it up at the NY BOE site, but got inconclusive results), but let’s say she has $1 million. That’s a lotta town board races she can fund at $5K a pop.
It would be a disservice to county voters to make those races non-competitive by outfunding the GOP candidates.

OK, has anyone approached David (Akbar-? Nakbar-?) about running for County Exec ? This is the guy who tried to challenge Eric Massa for the Dem nomination for congress last time and then found out he wasn’t a registered Dem. He has since corrected that error and is threatening a primary for the nomination again. Let’s get him doing something constructive, like running against Queen Maggie. For that, I would support him. For congress, he gets nothing, but my wrath.
No Democra from Monroe County will ever win in the 29th. Ever.
But he sounds perfect to beat Maggie. If he really wants to be in Congress someday, being County Exec would be a great stepping stone.
