CMCE: Koon’s on board, is YOUR Assemblycritter?

CitizenAction's on the CMCE case.
CitizenAction’s on the CMCE case.
So, my Assemblyman Koon is on the reform train. Is yours? Just got a note from CitizenActionNY, who’ve been teaming up with MetroJustice to raise awareness about CMCE in NY, and git ‘er done. The time is NOW.

From their email:

In just a few short weeks, Governor Spitzer will introduce full public financing legislation. And the Clean Elections sponsor in the State Senate will be the new Senate Democratic Leader, Malcolm Smith.

NOW WE NEED THE ASSEMBLY. We need the State Assembly to join Governor Spitzer in supporting full public financing of elections, instead of the weak partial system of public financing that the Assembly has enacted for 25 years. And we need Assembly action this spring, before the legislative session ends in June.

With as many people as read RT, we gotta have most, if not all, the local assemblycritters covered. Can you help us get a roll call from them in the comments? Call their office. If you don’t know your assemblyperson, there’s a link to the right, under “Tools”. Aw heck, I’ll just add it right here.

If your assemblyperson has responded to the roll call, you can still add your voice to the mix. CitizenAction has a way for you to fax your encouragement for CMCE to your assembly person. Rottenchester won’t approve (hi RC!), but I firmly believe every little bit helps.

Go to http://action.citizenactionny.org/ctt.asp?u=2830288&l=8718 to fax your Assembly person today and ask them to sign on to the letter in support of full public financing of elections now being circulated.

The legislature returns to work in Albany this week. The next 4-6 weeks will be a critical time for the campaign to pass Clean Elections through the Assembly. The first step is making sure Assemblymembers state their commitment to full public financing over their traditional “partial” bill.

Time for people running against incumbents for State Leg to have a fighting chance– a chance to win, a chance to listen to constituents instead of wealthy special interests.
