Anne Mulcahy making a killing on Xerox

According to a D&C article today, Anne Mulcahy, the CEO of Xerox received around $10 Million last year. This is a little out of my realm, but seeing as how Xerox has more than doubled it’s stock price and still manages to keep thousands of jobs right here in Rochester, I’m wondering… is she worth that much money?

Compared to scumbags like Lee Raymond of Exxon Mobil who made $686 million for 12 years followed by a $400 million golden parachute, I’m inclined to think Mulcahy is worth it… thoughts?

CEO’s bloated salary compensation packages are a pet peeve of mine but after I read the article and saw that her performance is stellar and her compensation is but a fraction of the company’s billions in earnings, it is easier to swallow. One caveat would be to find out how the employees are compensated and treated.

$10 million isn’t bad as these things go. But her smile in that picture … it looks like something you’d see from the inside of a shark cage.

A company that has been floundering and lost it’s identity is finally starting to get it’s groove on with good products and services that people want. Mulcahy is a large part of that and should be commended. As for compensation, well, big jobs should fairly garner big money, and $10 certainly qualifies without going completely off the deep end. I’d say it’s more than fair.

Now the big question is: is there any chance that Kodak can ever reclaim it’s household name as an innovator? Kodak has done well by providing goods that were already in the marketplace, but making them well. Can we ever push beyond that and expect more?

First of all, the fact that we see $10 million in any way, shape, or form as being a lean number drives home how out of control CEO pay is. In one regard, the added responsibility of thousands of lives and their employment, along with pressure from the shareholders certainly makes that pay seem reasonable.

However, what I need to question is why companies continue to invest so much money in CEO compensation rather than reinvesting it into the companies. The long term effect of this is goingt o kill us in the marketplace over the next decade. Does anyone here really think that that China businesses have similar compensation for their leaders?!??!
