More plastic bag stories
Third trip with my new Wegmans’s reusuable bags. This time I remembered to take them with me. Of course, I left them in the car so after filling my cart I had to go out and retreive them. But you know the earth is worth it.
Still for the first time shopping at Wegmans I didn’t take only any plastic bags. How cool is that?
The cashiers I’ve asked have said there is an increase in people using the new bags.
Any readers out there want to share their experience?
Paige made the plunge how about you?

Next time I shop at Tops, I should ask what their company’s policy is regarding the use of the Wegmans re-usable bags at Tops. I’d love to use them there too.
Oh, and I keep the bags in the car now, just in case I make an unexpected stop at Wegmans, which I’m sure happens to everyone.
Where are they in Wegman’s? What are they made of? Mesh? I want to do this too but I get so much in a hurry I’m apt to forget if I don’t know what I’m looking for.
You can’t miss them. Black bags wrapped in card board in an aisle display. I shop mainly at Pittsford so I can’t speak for other Wegmans but I suspect they are all over.
See my other post about what they are made of and where they come from.
Jerri, in many stores these bags are also available for purchase at the cashier stand. And in case you didn’t see them, I am 100% sure that if you asked the cashier, they would get you a bag or three while you were checking out.
Thanks guys. I shop at the Chili Ave. store so I hope they have them there (they probably do). Do you think they have plans to eventually replace all those old plastic bags with the reusable ones?
Have you guys ever touched on the subject of schools spraying pesticides on their lawns? My district, Churchville-Chili, sends home notices of this but I cannot conceive of why it is necessary. It is dangerous to childrens’ health, has been linked to brain tumors in some chemicals, and the residue leeches into the water system and yards through runoff. This is also bad for the environment.
Leaving your re-usable bag in the car burns more fuel - because of the additional weight. I love supermarket bags - i re-use them as bin liners (don’t have to buy them) , for walking the dog (I clean up after her) and for gym clothes etc. Plasric shopping bags are a non-issue. Stop worrying about them.

Gerard-are you serious ? Plastic shopping bags do not degrade. They are with us forever. They kill Sea Turtles amoung other endangered species and when burned they emit toxins into the air. With a little luck, our State Senator will have them outlawed soon.
I bring my own tote bags to my local supermarket. They are just bags that I have accumulated over the years. You don’t HAVE to use Wegman’s bags.
Ya for real… would you prefer those of us stateside take a “screw it, we can make a difference here, but might as well not even try” attitude?
Gerard,
Welcome. Now - are you serious or an I missing some finite point of humor from down under. I have a supply of bags I use for those purposes as well and **gasp** they are plastic bags from the grocer.
Point here of course is to reduce consumption. Plastics are petroleum-based - You are not arguing against reduction are you?
No you don’t have to use “Wegmans” bags. I pointed that out in my original post on the subject. The follow-on point of course that Wegman’s is making a move to supply its customers (not the ones who already have and use tote bags) with an easy reusable solution. That alone is pretty cool.
