Progressive states network: Why it rocks for NY
Some of you may be so incredibly hip you’re already all over this like a horde of locusts, but just in case…
Progressive States Network provides support and info for progressive state legislators trying to do the right thing. They report on steps forward (and back) in the progressive movement at the state-level, and have a weekly “Dispatch” you can get via email. A few of the recent highlights:
Today, a look at the states’ fix for the electoral college dilemma, the progress of adoption rights, and a deeper look at last week’s Facing Race conference.
Additionally, a look at attempts to reduce tax fraud in Montana and the Steps Forward & Back.
Their main agenda is pretty hard to beat:
* Increasing democracy
* Growing the economy
* Rewarding work
* Valuing families
* Strengthening communities
I’m going to call my Assemblycritter Koon and let him know about this. Chances are, though, he’s too busy to pay attention to it (though he gets an A- from DMI for progressive voting), but maybe his staffers would be interested/have time.
Chances are, though, it’s up to us at the grassroots/netroots level to read & digest it, sort out issues that we care about, then call our legislators on that issue. We’ll try to help with that here by posting about it as we get it.
I guess that’s all part of being a patriotic citizen, but dang, I wish our legislators could spend less time “dialing for dollars” for re-election, and more time doing this research themselves. *cough* CMCE *cough*
