Breaking: Village election results - updated

Just got off the phone with optimusprime, who’s on the scene in Pittsford. They’re about to head over to the town hall to find out how things went. Turnout is apparently higher this year than in the 2005 village elections– then it was in the 300s, today it was 415 at last count. Not bad for a 900 registered voter pool.

In 2005, the Dems actually won the town hall count, but there were enough absentee ballots (mostly GOP) to tip the balance to the GOP candidates.

We’ll keep you posted. Anyone from Webster know what’s going on up there?

Update (9:25): Just talked to optimus again– mixed news. Based on the town hall vote, it looks like Jan Reynolds and Stacy Freed have lost, but Mary Beth Cleary is up by about 12 votes. His line was breaking up, but it sounded like there were about 25 absentee ballots to be counted at the county building. In the past, the majority of the absentee ballots were GOP, so we’ll have to see how it goes.

Update (9:43): Got some numbers from optimus.

So it’s freakin close for Reynolds and Freed, is the upshot. For the first grouping of candidates, top two vote getters win the two seats. One interesting, and annoying note, Johnson, who ran as part of the Dem village ticket in 2005, went independent this year. If those 52 voters would’ve voted for the Dem candidates instead, at least Reynolds would likely be over the top.

In another Nader-ish irony, Johnson’s lawn signs were green.

Update (10:02): Just thought I should clarify– these numbers don’t include the 26 absentee and 2 affadavit ballots yet. Optimus and co. are headed down to the county building to get the final counts with those included. Stay tuned…
