Breaking!!! Cleary wins in Pittsford!

First Dem to win in Pittsford, evah! I just spoke with optimus and some of the folks at the county building for the count, and they thought that maybe a Dem won in 1908. Maybe.

Holy freakin crap.

(Candidates Jan Reynolds, Stacy Freed, and Mary Beth Cleary.)Â

Here’s the uncertified results:

Reynolds was a heart-breaking 12 votes away from a win. Ugh.

I spoke with Mary Beth Cleary on optimus’ phone and asked about what she thought the results of this election meant. She said “I’m very excited that the residents of the vilalage have decided to vote for a change on the board, and even more excited the village voters have decided to put their trust in me to help make that change.”

I asked if there was anything in particular that seemed to resonate as she was going door-to-door, talking to voters. “I think the message of representing their voice, in terms of making sure we are collaborating with village residents to make sure we working towards win-win solutions for the whole village.”

As bad as I feel for Reynolds and Freed, they helped reinforce that message of change and contributed to the overall environment that got Cleary over the top. In a way, this is their victory too.

It’s a little weird. There were three seats total up for grabs, two were grouped together and one standalone. For the two, yeah, it was the top two vote getters.

I’m from Summit, NJ. For over 100 years, Democrats didn’t even bother to run there; the Republican primary was the only election that mattered. Now the Democratic Governor of New Jersey is from there, and two-way local elections are the norm. Things change. Excelsior.

Excellent. Change happens a little at a time. So one seat at a time.

I wonder what the difference would be if the independent guy didn’t run. Never the less, good news all the way around. Hope Reynolds and Freed don’t leave the scene.

Not that I am surprised, but the local coverage of all the village elections is practically non-existent this morning. The D&C is the only one that I can see that has anything, and they didn’t even bother to list party affiliations.
