Webster: the benefits of closed government

We haven’t focused as much on the Webster village election coming up next week, so I thought I’d poke around and see what’s up.  I found this interesting tidbit in the Messenger Post.    Apparently there’s been some funny business in the village hall:

Webster village trustee in file scandal apologizes

A committee now wants the mayor to do the same.

Nearly two months after a hearing committee asked for the mayor and a trustee to make a public apology for removing employee files from Village Hall, one has been made.

Mayor Jack Judge and Cataldi, both Republicans, allegedly removed the files of three employees from Village Hall in December 2005. When the files were returned, documents were missing. Judge and Cataldi said they did not remove the documents.

Why did they remove them?  Anyone know anything more about this?
