More details on labor ads targeting Kuhl
Fighting 29th reported on this a few days ago and the D&C political blog has more:
Americans United for Change, a group founded in 2005 to fight President George Bush’s Social Security proposal, is broadcasting commercials in Rochester and Elmira about a vote against a pro-union bill by U.S. Rep. Randy Kuhl, R-Hammondsport, Steuben County. The organization, which has since broadened its mission to “build broad public and congressional support for action on a wide range of long-stalled policy issues,” says it wants to publicize Kuhl’s vote on the Employee Free Choice Act March 1. The bill, which passed the House of Representatives that day, would increase penalties for companies that intimidate employees to prevent them from forming a union and take other measures to “level the playing field” between employers and employees, according to the group.
The ads will air in Rochester and Elmira, and in a Pennsylvania congressman’s district, through March 21, at a cost of about $60,000, the group said.
Sixty thousand is a reasonable sized buy — the total cost of those much discussed “Caught Red-Handed” ads was about two hundred thousnd, for purposes of comparison.

It’s nice to see issue-based political ads outside of the run-up to an election.
Does this sort of thing happen often? I haven’t seen very many political ads on odd years. In fact, I can’t remember a single one.
Welcome, Sayhar! The only ones I can remember were to combat the GOP Social Security Privitization in 2005.
Then again, I’m pretty sleep deprived, so there may have been others.
