Media: who do you trust, again?

Congressman John Kuhl (NY-29), when asked in his Henrietta town meeting about the NYT article outlining ways that he and a few other congresscritters are getting around ethics reform, said this:

I don’t trust the New York Times.

It made me wonder, who does he trust? I’m going to assume Fox News, given that that appears to be the news of choice for his base. I don’t have any scientific evidence to back that up, but it reminds me of a letter last fall to Elmira’s Star-Gazette. Exile wrote about it on RT:

Those lucky few of you who read this blog regularly know that there is nothing I like better than chewing over the letters to the editor in the Elmira Star-Gazette. What we have here seems to be something new — a pro-Kuhl letter so ridiculous it qualifies as a strange form of satire:

As a frequent viewer of Fox News, I have learned that these outside interest groups are voraciously targeting Republican congressmen to help Democrats regain control of the House.

I’ve always seen little bits and pieces of evidence why you can’t trust Fox News, but I’ve never seen so much accumulated in one place at one time, as on this site. It’s a bunch of screen captures that just leave your head shaking.

Assuming that’s the standard news diet of Kuhl’s base, we have our work cut out for us. Because it’s not just about a congressional election, it’s about we can work together as a single district, as New Yorkers, and as families who share many of the same hopes, fears, and needs. If your main news source is that biased, how are you supposed to come to a rational and moral conclusion on the best way to move forward?

Update: Here’s a sample from that site to pique your interest. It just gets more unbelievable from there.
