Jim Walsh endorses America’s favorite Ex-Husband

It’s official… Jim Walsh has come out for Giuliani… Can’t say I’m shocked, but this was somewhat blogworthy… Thoughts?

Ideologically, it makes good sense for Walsh, and there’s always an inclination to favor the native son. Walsh can probably use a little of the good will among his own constituents (Republicans and moderates, maybe some Dems) that will come from cozying up to Rudy, and there’s always the grand daddy of all incentives to endorse a presidential candidate early on- if Rudy wins, Walsh will at the least get help in his own subsequent campaigns (and probably even his 08 campaign- if Rudy tries to put NY in play, he’ll have to campaign hard upstate) and would possibly put himself on a list for an appointment in Giuliani administration as a reward for an endorsement so early in the process.

The only drawback for Walsh would be if Giuliani loses the nomination, and then Walsh still probably hasn’t engendered too much ill will from the other GOP candidates as he’s probably expected to back a fellow New Yorker. If Giuliani has a major scandal of some sort, that could rub off, but that’s a risk in endorsing anyone.

Good move for Walsh, as I see it.

I agree… smart play by Walsh…as far as his Presidential endorsements go, he can’t lose on this one… McCain, Romney, and the rest probably don’t even know (or care) who Walsh is. He’s got the most to gain by getting on the Rudy Train.

Will he be disappointed in those who don’t vote for America’s estranged father?
