State of the county address plus MCDC bombshell
There’s lots of coverage of Maggie Brooks’ state of the county address this evening. Here’s the text of the speech, here’s WHAM-13’s summary, and here’s the D&C’s summary. We’ll more analysis of this later — I’m not really the county guy here, so hopefully someone over here who knows more will pick up on the particulars (my only personal goal with county coverage is to some day write a post titled “I Ain’t Gonna Work On Maggie’s Farm No More”). In the meantime, check out the Water Buffalo Press coverage..
WHEC Channel 10 speculates on who will run against Monroe County’s Iron Lady this fall (no for Morrelle, maybe for Koon, maybe for Frankel) and ends with this MCDC bombshell:
One thing we did learn from talking with democrats, Joe Morelle probably will return to his post as county democratic chairman.

Is this really a bombshell? Wasn’t it expected when Morelle’s replacement was only named as interim?
A lot of people I spoke to said Morrelle wouldn’t take it again. It’s a rotten job.
Look like they were wrong.
A rotten job? I doubt a Democratic Committe Chairman in a Blue state is that bad of a job. One does have to question, though, how Morrelle can give proper time to each post. Our state legislators are giving themselves a pay rise, I would assume because they have to work SOOO hard, and to properly serve Monroe County Dems I would assume Morrelle would have to give full-time attention to the post. One group, either area Dems or Morrelle’s constituents, is being shortchanged.
It doesn’t pay. Cash rules everything around us.
It doesn’t have to be about the money. The party chair gains stature among the party member which translated into political capital to be cashed in down the road.
The lousy job comments come from infighting that used to be present and prominent in the local Democratic party. It is probably still there but getting better.
Personally I hope Frankel runs… She’s already shown she can get stuff done, and I think she’s ready to move up in rank. Also, I think she’s got enough grassroots support to make a real run at Maggie, who I think a lot of people are getting sick of.
[...] Joe Morrelle surprised some by returning to his post as head of MCDC. [...]
