MPost covers Kuhl protest

Overall, a really good article, and a nice complement to optimus’ video.

FAIRPORT – Sarah Hoffman was on her way home to Webster when she passed demonstrators holding signs saying, “Out of Iraq,” and “Iraq escalation – wrong way.”

The 18-year-old and her friend couldn’t help but stop their car, get out and storm the group of about 20 protesters, clumped in front of Packetts Landing in Fairport Thursday afternoon in the cold.

She wasn’t there to slam the anti-war demonstrators.

“I just want to say I appreciate what you are doing,” she said to them, smiling.

She went on to say, her older brother, Jeffrey, 20, is a Marine stationed in Iraq and isn’t expected home soon.

“Before, I was proud of him because he was proud of what he was doing, but when I talk to him he sounds scared and I want him to come home,” she said.

But you know what will solve this? More of our young men and women in harm’s way, scared and wanting to come home. Riiiight.

The article includes Kuhl’s written statement on his anti-anti-escalation vote, then this great rebuttal:

James Swarts, a history professor at the State University of New York at Geneseo, said although Kuhl may have his views, he is not listening to constituents.

“The majority of Americans are against the war. It is Kuhl’s job to represent the people not be a representative to the executive branch,” he said.

Holy crap! I never quite thought of it that way. What a great way to put it.

Go check out the whole article, it’s got some other interesting tidbits as well. And if you have a sec, post a comment at the bottom of it.
